
Buffett announced that he was planning to donate more than 80 percent of his fortune to charitable foundations; in 2020, he increased that percentage to a whopping 99 percent. The foundation that received the most money was the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation--created by Microsoft founder Bill Gates and his then wife, Melinda. It was is focused on global health and education; Bill and Buffett had maintained a close bond since the 1990s. Other organizations that received donations were those that were run by Buffett's kids and the Susan Thompson Buffett Foundation named after his late wife. The foundation focused on women's reproductive health , and was able to provide college scholarships. In the year 2010 Buffett as well as the Gateses established the Giving Pledge, an invitation to wealthy people to give the bulk of their money to charities.
